Hope the new jace ends up at least used so it's price raises. I've pulled seven so far and I'm kind of tired of his stupid face.

He's not bad, just overshadowed by {Jace, Vyrn's Prodigy}.

When origins rotates will it see play though? Control decks don't seem to be the norm atm

Control has morphed now into something different then that standard Ux deck we're used to

Thing is, is that there are currently 2 standard U control decks Esper Dragons and Esper Walkers. Dragons will be killed (obviously) next rotation, but walkers only lose Narset (basically) so it will likely still be a deck unless they print some sweet draw spells. Bc the only real reason walkers are a deck is bc U has terrible card advantage currently, so it needs the walkers to generate them. But if we see a new dig/Sphinx rev, then walkers will likely not be a deck anymore due to other options

Origins and dtk rotate at the same time.
So you lose more than narset

The abuse potential for jvp and epiphany at the drownyard  has not been seen yet

Synergy so good. Make jace flip EOT, use the spells opponent didn't want to put in your hand

I'm sure I owned 4 jvp I would use them (can't justify $200 for a playset of standard )

 {Jace, Unraveler of Secrets}

Coming down at 6 while replacing himself or bouncing something is pretty darn good. I don't know if his ult is good enough to be worth it but he sits there and gains card advantage while drawing away aggro.

The argument against him is he's basically glorified card advantage which can be replaced with any solid card drawing spell that doesn't require protection to get full value out of. I don't really see a deck where he'd shine bright enough to become a staple, however I do think he's playable in control right now, if it weren't for {Jace, Vryn's Prodigy}.

So verdict: fringe play at least. Don't expect a spike but it could happen.

DirtyMustachio

Is jvp played in anything outside standard, that warrants his price?

He's played in Modern and Legacy.

And commander. And casual. If he was legal in pauper I am sure he would get a run there too.

I got a set for 180 and wasn't sure if I should resell or if ther price was going to hold after rotation I wouldn't worry about it

I'm not sure VP will stay remotely as high post-rotation as he is now. Yes, he sees play in non-rotating formats, but as far as I know he's usually a one– or two-of. A lot of his demand came from Standard, where at the time the decks that wanted him (which were most decks) wanted four of him. Come rotation, Standard players will be dumping all of their copies, and since (AFAIK) he's wanted in fewer numbers in other formats, there'll be a larger supply of Jaces available. The only real factor that could hold him up more than, say, Karn or LotV is that he's a DFC, which theoretically makes him much harder to reprint. I don't know how much that will hold his value up.

If you're looking to sell Jace, I think the best time would be either now or some point after PT Eldritch Moon. Blue is pretty weak in Standard currently, but Eldritch Moon could change that. If it does, Jace might see one last resurgence before rotation; if not, though, his value will probably continue to fall. But if you're not looking to gamble on his price and need the money, I'd sell now.

DirtyMustachio

Very reasonable point thanks, I don't necessarily need to sell him, but I do like to know what my chances are.
