I think its hilarious when people are scared of dogs. 99% of the time all you have to do is stick your hand out with your palm open and the dog will come up to you, sniff your hand and will be fine.

And this is why my nickname is Stubby and had to learn how to write with my left hand..... Hahah jk. So true. All dogs are juat big giant puppies if you show them some real love. I'm such a harda*# when it comes to everything except dogs. I'm the biggest softy you've ever met.

If you are equating "dangerous" = bite frequency then Pomeranians are f***ing ferocious!!!

Exactly!  Just because pitties have the capacity to maul someone doesn't mean they are the only ones who will!  Small dogs are generally the most aggressive. Damn chihuahuas....  I love my job haha (work at a humane society)

Already gave you a +1 today but will definitely back track tomorrow to give another. Hats off sir. I volunteer at mine every chance I get.

What reeeeeally grinds my gears is when people post things on social media without checking their sources. That is how misinformation and rumors are spread.

I am currently in private college prep school taking AP classes... I honestly don't know how I survived those years of public education but they sucked.

So you're paying more to take the same classes at a private school?

When I read this I heard Sean Connery saying "Your mother is (blah blah blah) Trebec!" Hahah

I hate the asinine belief that pit bulls are a "dangerous breed."  The media talks about them all the time, but never when a German shepherd attacks someone. Any dog has the potential to bite someone ad they all have a form of aggression, but pit bulls seem to be the focal point of the media.

That is because pit bulls are more likely to be aggressive.  It's in their genes.  And they have the strength to back it up.  German shepards are the police dogs right?  The media doesn't cover that because pretty much the only people who own them are the police.  There just aren't that many, bt there are a lot of pit bulls.

Before pitbulls caught big media hype all that was talked about were shepards, rotties, and dobermans. There are TONS of these three types used as guard dog capacities. The above statemnet is very misinformed sir. I will not -1 for it because these are the dogs that the media covers now and A&E makes shows about. But in the late 70's when the Omen premiered Rottweilers had the same reputation of the pitbulls today. And they have a stroger bite than a pit. It's what is displayed on the media hype. Don't believe it. If you can prove me wrong with substantiated research ai will retract this statement.

It's in their genes?  I've been around hundreds of pits at work (seriously) and never been bitten by one. I've been around 5-10 shepherds, I've been bitten by one and there has only been one single shepherd that hasn't had any noticeable form of aggression. It's in the numbers. Pit bulls (which isn't an actual breed, btw, just a generalization [see: boxers, bull dogs, staffordshire terriers, etc.]) were the "big thing" and everyone had one. If there are a million pit bulls and only ten thousand other dogs, of course the "aggression" in pit bulls is going to be more noticeable. There's more of them!  But, they've gotten a terrible reputation from the media. I've got a min pin, an Italian greyhound, and a "pit bull" in my house, the out is the least aggressive of the three, and the other two aren't aggressive at all!

Damn, I could rant about this alllll day long...

Breathe it out brother. It's the medias fault. You can't blame someone for accepting what they see as headline news if they believe they they are watching news. You are very correct in your facts, unfortunately not everyone knows the facts. The purebred "numbers" of pits are almost nonexistant. If a dog has a broad chest and wide jaws they are a "pit" unfortunately. Let us not jump to blame but let us educate. That's the problem. As lovers of the big breeds we need to let people know and educate rather than lose our temper. Dogs can't can't talk. We can. :-)

There's no such thing as a bad dog. Just bad, stupid, idiotic, moronic, ignorant owners.

I have been bit in the eye and in the arm by dogs but I still love them. I have two myself: a Lhasa Apso and a Golden Retriever.

I'm not trying to further the debate. I'm wondering about the research aspect of this post. I keep pretty up to date with "aggresive" breed dog reports. I'm a big supporter of Rottweilers. I'm wondering about the information your talking about.

You know what grinds MY gears: back and forthing about a topic and the same things are being said over and over just in different wording. And one side has facts and experience and the other has what the news says.

Jus sayin.

Haha sorry if I'm sounding rude!  Not trying to come off that way!  When I get going on a topic I have strong opinions about, I just go :P. Don't mean to come off the wrong way 👍
