Maybe as budget alternative to shocks. But pain lands could just be better.

The whole point in running the battle lands in an eternal format would be to avoid taking unnecessary damage from lands. Two color decks will easily be able to play some of these in order to fetch lands that come into play untapped without losing any life. I agree with Kiwi; $5-6 sounds about right for lands that will see play as 1-2 ofs in some modern decks. Not saying pain lands are bad, but I don't think the two cycles are really interchangeable.

True, they fill different roles. The decks that had 4 shocks to fetch and 16 basics will likely be better off with the tango's. Those decks that only run a few basics are better off with the pain lands. If you don't need them for colored mana every turn that is..
In such a deck, the tango's would pretty much guild gates with more text.
