Why is foil {elvish mystic} soo expensive?  Sure he sees a lot of play, but he is a common.  $6 for a common?  Come on.

It's a popular new card in foil.  It will come down in time...

Yea and a lack of printing compared to {llanowar elves}.

Now that Theros is fully spoiled can we see predictions on what sees play and what to invest in?

Should I buy alpha lightning bolt?

That depends, do you want it for "pimp"ness or speculation? Price has been pretty stable for a while, so there's no real reason for it to go up a significant amount anytime soon if that's why you're considering it.

Also, alpha's have more rounded corners, making them different from any non-alpha cards, that's why I use beta Bolts instead.

What do you all think good ol' snappy will end up at after he rotates?  I'd like to see him settle at 12-15 but I'm sure that's wishful thinking.

I think {snapcaster mage} is going to drop to $10 minimum, but will only go up with time

Wishfull thinking at best. $25-$50 more likely depending on the current top deck.

so we got one for down one for up.....  hmmm time will tell I suppose.

Mothaelon

The last thing he will do is go down. I mean, he is honestly used more in other formats than standard already, and I highly doubt we will see a reprint any time soon or if at all. So his availability will go down with innistrad rotating out and less and less of it being in print. The only way he can go is up.

I think $50 is a little on the high side but $20-35 or so is an extremely realistic price in the future.

As someone who is trying to get into eternal formats, I need them but I was on a hiatus during Innistrad block and don't have them. When is the best time to buy, just after rotation?

I think 2 weeks after, people will be dumping playsets and stores will have a surplus

He's really one of the few cards that can be jammed into any deck that has 1 color (Blue) in multiple formats.
I'm guessing $50ish way down the road, possibly 5-6 years. But I feel like those that have him will never trade him and the ones that are wild will be picked up. He's an amazing card with a good effect. But I'd say $30ish is his immediate price.
99% of cards drop after rotation because Type 2 is most popular. I just don't think he'll go to insane prices mainly because right now blue isn't exactly top-teir in modern, Jund (or Ajundi) and Pods are dominating the format and everything blue gets to compete with that gets banned: {Ponder}, {Ancestral Vision}, {Preordain}, {Jace the Mind Sculptor}, {Mental Misstep}. To go further into all blue stuff {Time Walk}, {Force of Will}, ect...Blue gets all the ban hate.
