The Definitive Guide to Trading *READ BEFORE TRADING*

The purpose of this guide is to be an introduction to trading online and what everyone needs to know before trading!

How to trade safely:

Be diligent before trading with people and take the proper steps to protect yourself and have good trades here.

We have two threads set up for members to look through of "Trusted Traders" and "Untrustworthy Traders". If you have not traded with a particular member before, check the proper threads to see if they are on either. It doesn't hurt to crosscheck the names with other trusted traders and to see how many different people have listed them one way or the other.

We offer a Middle-Man service for high value trades or any trades that anyone feels might require it (such as trading with unknown/new traders/members on the untrustworthy list). This service is free. Learn about the service here.

If a trade sounds too good to be true, it probably is!! The app pulls the prices right from TCG, so there should never be a doubt on card value and what each party is receiving.

A note to new users: Many established traders may ask you to send your end first before they send their end out. This is to protect themselves from potential scammers since you will have little or no trading history. If they are trusted traders and you are comfortable with sending first, by all means, go ahead. If you are uneasy about doing so, utilize the middle-man service. We created it for good reason! After enough successful trades, you too will become trusted traders.

With that being said, after each trade it is good practice and courtesy to add users to your own trusted traders list in the trusted traders thread and to note anything of importance. It can also be a nice gesture to leave a comment on their private page for others to see as they browse that persons page.

REMEMBER THAT THE FEEDBACK SYSTEM IS A GUIDE AND A GUIDE ONLY! IT ONLY REPRESENTS PAST DEALINGS AND CANNOT PROTECT ANY USER 100%. IF YOU AT ALL ARE NERVOUS ABOUT A TRADE OR WANT TO USE CAUTION, THE MIDDLEMAN ROUTE IS THE SAFEST ROUTE YOU CAN TAKE. EVEN THAT WE CANNOT GUARANTEE 100% BUT IT IS THE CLOSEST YOU WILL GET TO IT.

Address Verification:
The Untrustworthy Traders thread also contains addresses of known scammers. Do not hesitate to verify the address you are sending to if you are in any way unsure of the person you are sending to or if you have never traded with them before. Please message any moderator the address if you are still unsure after checking the known public list and we will let you know if we have come across it before.

Packaging:
How you package your cards when you send them out to another member can vary, but here are tips for those who are unsure.

•  Make sure to secure the cards well and protect them from damage. I do this by placing the cards in plastic sleeves (penny sleeves/regular card sleeves) first. I then take the card(s) and flip them upside down and put inside a hard case (toploader) and tape the toploader shut. By flipping the cards upside down you eliminate the chance of the card(s) sliding out of the sleeve and getting stuck on the tape.
•  Find an envelope for shipping. Some people like added protection and will send in bubble mailers. This is one of the safer methods for sure, but can be more costly. For most trades, I will take the the toploader with the card in it and fold it within a piece of paper and tape it shut and then tape it to the inside of a regular envelope.
•  Seal the envelope. I also like to throw on some extra tape on the seams to make sure it can't open.

You do not have to follow this method, but it's at least a guide for those who are unsure. I've never had a problem with any cards being damaged doing it in this manner. If you have any questions of packaging, feel free to message me or another mod who can help you.

Trade Binders:

If possible, try to keep your trade binder (needs and wants) up to date so it is easier for other members and yourself to find potential trades and to look through your private page while coming up with a trade offer.

Note: After adding cards to your trade binders, make sure you hit "Update Private Page" so that the app will let others see what's in your binders.

The app also has a feature that lets you compare potential trades and will see if other members have things you are looking for or need things you have. If you want the potential trades feature to work, you have to add cards through the app and not manually on your private page. Keep in mind that currently in potential trades it only searches for the version of the card you have in your binder. (IE: You selected the Modern Masters version of {City of Brass} as something you needed, but if someone has a different version such as one from Arabian Nights, the potential trade feature will not find it. A little limiting at times, but most of the time it is not a hindrance.)

PLEASE HAVE FUN TRADING AND TRADE CAREFULLY! USE THE SERVICES WE PROVIDE TO TRADE IN THE SAFEST MANOR POSSIBLE!!

Interest has been expressed in the idea of some of the mods being able to pose as "middle-men" in higher value trades, to offer some security in your valuable cards. We are happy to offer this to you, should you choose to use it. Here's how it works.

- Pick a participating mod to act as your go-between. Participating mods will be listed at the bottom of this post, along with their general location (so you can judge which will be best for shipping speed/cost) and their current active middle-man trades in progress (allowing you to see how busy the mod is, and if someone out there has a lot of open-ended high value trades). Only names in active trades will be posted, your trading info is still private and we will respect that privacy.

- Both people involved in the trade must PM the mod. Please request middle-man service, and include the trade info. Once the mod gets a pm from both of the traders, he will reply with confirmation and his address.

- Both traders send their half of the trade to the mod. PLEASE INCLUDE AN ADDRESSED AND STAMPED ENVELOPE as well, addressed to the other trader. Once the mod receives both halves, he will use the stamped envelopes you sent to complete the trade.

If one half of the trade should fail or fall through, the mod will return-to-sender the half he received to its rightful owner.

Please do not request a mod on trades valued at under $25.

Gotta give {Dudecore} respect for originally heading this list up, now that he is gone, I will be taking it over to keep Trusted and Untrusted in sync with eachother. So here we go!

If you have someone to report, PM a Moderator and describe your reasoning for the accusation.  While "He jacked my {Black Lotus}" is a viable reason, "I have been waiting 2 weeks" is not really a viable reason.  Sometimes mail can be slow, sometimes something happens and they can't send right away, and sometimes, people are just flat-out lazy or forgetful.  Anyway, these are the users that have been deemed "Untrustworthy" by the community. Renegers
Malachiracer

Renegers are users who have been found to start a trade, and then back out of the trade, but not necessarily steal from people.  These people are not necessarily untrustworthy, but if you want to trade with them, do so with caution.

This has been created and locked to deter potential name-dropping.  If your name appears on here and you think it shouldn't be, Xaol has provided the community with a Trials section to dispute it.

BY ALL MEANS, DO NOT TRADE WITH ANYONE ON THIS LIST WHO IS NOT BANNED WITHOUT GOING THROUGH A MIDDLEMAN OR HAVING THEM SEND FIRST! USE CAUTION WITH UNESTABLISHED USERS!
