Title: Christmas wall event
Post by: Kaylesh on November 24, 2015, 10:15:41 AM
I'm planning of running a Christmas flavored wall event about halfway December. Opening sign ups now to improve upon what happened with the Halloween event.

The idea is an all vs one Archenemy game with Christmas flavor. Why should you join? It's a fun (should I say jolly) experience. You could see decks in action that inspire, some interaction, a bonding experience of having a common enemy.

Just having fun is the main reason though, so bring a deck that helps in that. Explosive fun is ok, but please don't bring infinite combo decks.

Signups so far (updated 3/12)
{{linkcelestrial}}: Superfriends
{{TheRavensEye}} Will you burn?
{{Noblellama}} Anything really ;)

Would {stocking tiger} be allowed for flavor reasons?

Might join this if I can get time and my R/G casual landfall deck in order. Because colour flavour.

I'm willing to allow the "gifts" set cards for flavor, with the exception of {seasons beating} & {snow mercy}. Those are too powerful artifacts to be held by others than Santa.
(Remember when Elmo saved Christmas, almost to lose it again?)
(And in the case of beating, a one-sided board wipe for RRRR? No.)

For this one I'm preparing something different. Still working on tweaking it to get it right, but it's coming along nicely.

Yeah... The last one was bad. It was supposed to be EDH and people were just playing whatever it seemed like.

How did I miss that one?? Bad llama!
For the record: EDH is not a requirement. It can be a lot of fun with a commander deck, but can also be played with casual, or even a mix.

Sorry Kay. But that's just how it is certain people always pull that silver bullet card on wall games. I just assumed llama was messing around. I thought I remember a certain person getting their combo piece killed often and every game in their first 15 cards they would hit that card two or three times. We have some Great Wall players here. They should really stop wasting their time on wall games and go pro.

Yeah about that

I missed the whole "this was an actual deck" event when I wrote those first turns so after that I was like "k, let's make this a legit deck and stuff a ton of sables into it"

I promise if I participate in this next one it will be legit from the start. My apologies all around.
Apologies accepted. From my part, I was a little fuzzy in what was going on too..

*Just setting a mood, dropping some spoilers.*

It is whispered in the houses, Krampus walked this night.
It is the talk, in the tavern, safe under the lantern light.
"It was him, I know for certain", says a man, nursing his ale.
Another nods, "'Twas that horned devil". He is looking rather pale.
A third chimes in: "But devil Krampus, only comes for children bad."
"Yes, we shouldn't have to fear him, like the one that I have met."
Title: Re: Christmas wall event
Post by: Kaylesh on December 09, 2015, 02:16:22 PM
"The one I met, he looked like Krampus. Tall and horned he passed me by.
Winged too, as is this devil, yet something seems a bit awry.
Where Krampus walks, he searches children, who are naughty those he takes.
Yet this one, he goes on stalking, as if some bigger is at stake"

*I'm gonna kick this off Tuesday 15th, within the last weeks of the advent, the dark days before Christmas. Why Tuesday? That's because I'll be out of town for the weekend. Mum-in-law turns 70.*

This fellow, who resembles Krampus, stalks the night, but not for kids.
He seems to have a greater purpose, then get on everybody's wits.
When he passed below a lantern, I could glimpse his evil face.
Horned it was, but not demonic. He seemed of the dragon's race.

After a long gloomy silence, the door bursts open. In stumbles a man you recognize as Teferi.
"I need help", he mutters. Ryu is here, attempting to drain the joy of Christmas. He found out it's the greatest power of all, and he wants it for his own. That's the reason you're sitting gloomy and scared inside, while celebrating is in order. Christmas time is here. Come, help me save it."
With that, he slumps to the ground.

The town is suddenly dark. Outside you hear a flapping of wings from the darkness. A voice older then time itself booms in your heads:

"I understand my plan has been made public. Now that you stay and cower, instead of giving me my due in jolly, I will come and drain the world from here. All happiness will be mine, in good time."

*Turn 1:
Scheme : All in good time: take an extra turn after this one, schemes are not set in motion this extra turn.

{leech ridden swamp}
(Extra turn)
{Urborg tomb of Yawgmoth}, {waste not}.

Play your first turns.

I worded my instructions a little awkward: As archenemy I pulled the scheme for an extra turn, then took 2 and told you to take your turns, which you did. Two of them.
Since not much went on there, I'll just paste my actual turn 2 between your T1 and T2, then proceed with T3.
Sorry for the mess.

The voice in your heads turns to a sinister laughter, then proceeds to inform you of the wastes prepared for you. "Rot, corruption, decay in the blind eternities is what awaits you, who would stand against me. None will keep me from taking back what should be mine. My power that was stripped from me through theft, betrayal. I will have it back, and exact my revenge". With that, the voice turns into a shriek that seems to rip your mind from your heads. You feel numbed and soothed at the same time. At peace.

*******

T2: {cabal coffers}, tap out into {words of waste}. Scheme: know naught but fire. You get damage equal to cards in hand at start of T2 (7 for each right?)
T3: swamp, tap swamp + Urborg into {Lilliana's caress}. Activate {leech ridden swamp} for 1 life lost each.
scheme: I bask in your silent awe.
Ongoing: you can each cast up to one spell each turn, this effect ends when no spells have been cast between my eot and my upkeep. (So pretty much if you haven't cast spells in your turn).

40/4 - tapped out.
You each lost 8, take your T3.

"If you're so sure you can drag me off to the blind entities why do you feel the need to play your mind games? I've had enough voices in my head. Yours doesn't scare me."

Untap, draw.

Island.
Tap out for {Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver}
+2 at Mr. Schizophrenia
Pass.

6/12
Aishok at 5.

Link & llama, are you ok with continuing with Taven on AFK?

With Ashiok joining you to assist in the mind battle, the entity seems taken aback. But is isn't long before the muttering continues.
"Your fate will thrice be sealed. Doom to who would bereft me of my power, my precious mana."

*Activate {words of waste} (tap swamp) on upkeep, proceed to draw phase. All discard a card, lose 2, and Waste not triggers.

"I appreciate your contribution in the spirit of Christmas. The spirit of giving. I understand Santa has little elves helping him, I have one too."
{Liliana Vess} appears, hitting llama with a bolt of dark magic.

*Draw one, create one 2/2.
Activate scheme: Your fate is thrice sealed. (I reveal top 3 of library, lands go to the field, non-lands in hand)
Reveal: mountain, {Liliana vess}, {Swiftfoot boots}. Play {sunken ruin}.
Tap mt/Urborg/coffers for 6xB.
Cast {Liliana Vess}, +1

60/5
Lilli 6
One 2/2 zombie
Llama discards 1, loses 2, triggers waste.
Holding turn, depending on what llama discards.

You feel a mental stinging, not totally unfamiliar, leeching some more of your strength away. Then the voice again, but trailing away from your mind to your ears, where sound should be.
"The time for games is over. We dawdled too long here. The days of Christmas have come upon us, and I must not waste more time here."
With that, a huge ancient dragon rips from the sky, right upon LinkCelestrial.
"Here is a display of my dark power!"
And indeed there is, as you all feel invigorated. Yet most invigorated is the vilest and eldest of living Elder Dragons. Nicol Bolas himself.
He sets himself upon the square, ready to take out yet another of you.

*On your eot I activate {leech ridden swamp}. You each lose one.

UUD
Take two from Mogis.

Scheme: a display of my dark power. Until next turn, when you tap a land it generates an additional mana of any type produced (for both me and you)

Play {bloodstained mire}
Tap swamp, cabal for 8xB.
Activate {sunken ruins} B -> UUU.
Tap mountain for RR
Use UB for {lightning greaves}.
Use UUBBRR + BB for {Nicol bolas}
BB floating. Tap Urborg + mire for 6B total. Cast {wound reflection}.
Attach greaves to Bolas.
Bolas turns @ LinkCelestrial, ripping him to shreds.
Liliana +1 @ TheRavensEye. Discard one, lose 2 life.

I truly underestimated the power this deck/scheme set could have.
I've seen a few devastating one-ofs, such as discard 4 or allies discard 2 with {waste not} on the board vs 5 exploding. But getting a nasty combo like that in the opening phase of the game I hadn't seen yet.
