Title: Legacy FNM/Tournament Results
Post by: Taysby on January 12, 2014, 12:30:58 PM
Been to a legacy fnm or tournament and want to share your results?  Or just want to discuss what you want to run?  Discuss that here.

I have only been able to play my legacy deck in one tournament recently due to the holidays. I'm running my U/R Stiflenaught deck (slightly modified from what's posted on here).  Went 3-0 in the event.

2-0 vs High Tide
2-1 vs Manaless Dredge
2-0 vs ANT

Can't wait to do more testing!

I used to play here until I had to focus on school. You and I may have met a few times as I remember losing to that deck quite a few times before I had to stop. If it helps, I was the person wearing full chef's whites.

Small world! I don't remember playing anyone in chef's whites, but it's certainly possible. I've only been going regularly to legacy since last September (and switch between RUG and Jund infrequently).

Snowmageddon may have happened, but there were still 18 people this Wednesday. I played U/W/R Delver for the first time.

Round 1: Reanimator. Won 2-1
Got {Griselbrand}'d game 1, but got there games two and three with {Rest in Peace} and {Meddling Mage}

Round 2: Esper Stoneblade. Lost 1-2. Made a bad misplay in using a bolt instead of a plow to get rid of a stoneforge that cost me the last points of damage I needed to win the race with his {True-Name Nemesis}

Round 3: Deathblade. Lost 0-2.
Game 1 was super swingy with both of us having {True-Name Nemesis}, but he had mainboard {Sword of Fire and Ice} to break it open. Game 2 he voltron'd it up and I wasn't able to deal with it.

Round 4: Death and Taxes. Won 2-0.
Game 1 {True-Name Nemesis}+{Umezawa's Jitte} = happy fun time. game 2 he played {Wasteland} into Vial. I played a fetch and passed. He plays another wasteland and passes. I play another fetch, crack both, and {Wear // Tear} his vial. He responds by vialing in Mom, and wasting my lands. Unfortunately, he had no other lands, so I won with Delver and Co.

Made top 8 on good breakers.
Top 8: Belcher. Won 2-0 He mulled to 5 both games, and I had enough permission to win.

Split at top 4. I don't really like the deck because of True-Name, but it seemed alright in the matchups I had, though most of the miracles players weren't there to destroy me, so the meta was probably friendlier than it normally would be for the deck.

One of these weeks we have to meet up and play a few games. I no longer have my legacy deck, but will try to scrape something together.

I have a fair amount of legacy staples, that's all I play at the moment (aside from (10-proxy) Vintage, but I've only played that once so far).

CompIete Decks:
Punishing Jund
U/W/R Delver
RUG Delver
Burn (I don't play it, I built it for my friend/roommate)

I'm also a {Jace, the Mind Sculptor} and {Vendilion Clique} away from having Miracles done.

Between decks, yes, though burn doesn't use any.

First legacy tournament with my legacy fishes. Went 2-1 for fourth overall. Damn tie breakers.
2-1 vs mono red.
He was on the play and I couldnt muster a good enough board state game 1. Game 2 saved my counters for his blasts and an {Umezewa's Jitte} on a {True-Name Nemesis} was too much for him to handle. Game three saw my {AEther Vial} t1 and was able drop a few lord's and TNN for the win

0-2 vs MUD
This is a terrible match up for me. I thought I had the game on lock but {Wurmcoil Engine} is a lot to deal with. Game two was much the same he has awesome draws and my board state was terrible.

2-0 vs Painters Stone
Well timed {Force of Will} kept him from getting his combo online both games plowed over him with a couple TNN buffed from my lords.

Legacy $1K was overshadowed by a bigger event nearby, but the prizes were guaranteed. 26 players, ran Punishing Jund.

Round 1: Won 2-1 against Team America
Game 1 didn't go well ({Tombstalker} is actually better against me than TNN), but this (like all the 3 color delver decks) seems like a positive matchup, and I got there games 2 and 3. {Choke} was a house.

Round 2: Lost 2-0 to ANT
Not much to say, didn't get enough hand-disruption to slow him down too much.

Round 3: Won 2-0 against Deathblade
Funny game 1, raced his {True-Name Nemesis} just barely. Game 2 got his TNN with {Golgari Charm}, then stuck a {Choke} after he tapped out for {Batterskull}. {Punishing Fire}'d away the B'skull, and sealed it up a few turns later.

Round 4: Won 2-0 against Mono-U tempo
Rogue deck that ran Delver, TNN, {Mutavault}, {Back to Basics}, and {Vendilion Clique}.

Round 5: ID to top 8

Top 8: Won 2-1 against MUD
Game 1 he mulled, and I got there without him doing a whole lot. Game 2 he got a {Wurmcoil Engine}, {Trinisphere}, and {Chalice of the Void} on 2. Lilli split the Wurmcoil, and my Bloodbraid chumped the deathtouch token. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough mana to stay alive once I could blow up the chalice thanks to 3Sphere. Game 3 he mulled to 6, and I kept him off of bombs long enough to get there, with {Ancient Grudge} blowing up 2/3 of his Wurmcoil this time.

We agreed to split the prize at top 4, but play for points.
Top 4: Won 2-1 against ANT
Lost game 1, and he killed himself via {Ad Nauseam} games 2 and 3 going for the win.

Finals: Lost 2-0 to Punishing Jund
Really felt the pain of no {Lightning Bolt} here to deal with his turn 1 {Deathrite Shaman}.

Finished 2nd, prize split was great thanks to the guaranteed prize support.

Another $1k, 45 players this time (no conflicting events), 6 Rounds. I played Miracles for the 2nd time.

Round 1: Lost to Death and Taxes 2-0
I didn't think that this was a bad matchup, but I did a whole heap of nothing both games, {Phyrexian Revoker} on my top was really difficult game 1, and even though I was able to entreat in each game, it wasn't enough to overcome his board at the time. Not seeing a terminus or verdict either game was rough.

Round 2: Won against BUG Delver 2-0
Don't remember a ton, though I sent his {Tombstalker} farming, and entreated at some point for happy times.

Round 3: Won against Reanimator 2-1
I got killed by an early Grizzy game 1. Game 2 had RIP resolve, {Show and Tell} countered, then Jace resolve to finish it up. Game 3 went pretty much the same way as game 2, counter everything, play Jace.

Round 4: Won against Shardless BUG 2-1
Game 1 I got overwhelmed with dudes, and punted by not floating a look before fetching to get blown out by abrupt decay. Game 2 I countered one {Ancestral Visions}, but another one resolved, and I was in big trouble on board, at 2 life and 5 lands. Play Jace->brainstorm draws me land, {Brainstorm}, {Terminus}. Put the 1 card in my hand before brainstorm back with terminus on top. He tries to hymn me before attacking, so I brainstorm to wipe his board, going to 1 off my fetch to cast terminus. Win with Jace : D. Don't remember game 3, but from my notes it looks like I entreat at some point and win.

Round 5: Won 2-1 against Miracles
One of the other people from my LGS who is way better with the deck than me. He won game 1, I won game 2. Game 3 he fought over my snapcaster trying to blast his Jace, but in the process shuffled away the entreat he had on top, which he could have forced through with his counter magic.

Round 6: Draw 1-1-1 with Deathblade
We wouldn't know if we could draw into top 8 until some of the other matches were done, so we played it out. I got him game 1, with the lock, lost game 2, and there wasn't enough time for either if us to win game 3, so we drew, which turned out to be good, since the other matches went the way we needed to both be locked for top 8.

Top 8: Lost 2-0 to 12-Post:
The worst matchup ever conceived, especially since I don't run any {Blood Moon} or {Humility}. I die a painful death.

Ended up in 7th, got a {Badlands} with the store credit. I was very pleased with the deck, I never really felt out of it except against 12-post. It turns out that 8 people were on Miracles, so it's good I didn't get into the draw bracket, as I am terrible in the mirror.

Been getting humpday legacy firing off in Los Angeles, this was the 3rd or 4th week and we got 7 players!

I ended up getting round one bye, went 2-0 for the two matches I played and got first! $30 credit and a serum visions! Who cares if it's not for legacy, $10 card!

1st matchup - miracles GP Lille mentor list.

1st matchup, baited his counters and got jace down t4/5, opponent made this face when I played jace 😳, brought out liliana and destroyed his hand, he had no answers with top and counterbalance on the field.

Second game, he got pretty mana screwed and I ended up getting 3 Shardless agents out in two turns, free drs, free recall and free Goyf just sealed the deal

2nd match - vs bug top control

First matchup, got threw really fast, ashiok almost decked me but I needed up keeping pressure on the player and killed him with drs drain

Second matchup, fow'd his ashiok and that set the pace for the game as I dropped 2 Goyfs which were at a very easy 5 power.

All games at the tournament almost went to time. Really stoked to have legacy ona. Regular day. Will probably start donating a few cards to encourage attendance for new people.

Really happy to get legacy going in my area :)
